What a day it was in Lytham on Wednesday 25th July. Blessed yet again with beautiful weather, Lytham Square was packed with activity and the atmosphere was electric.
Radio Manchester showed up in force with their communications bus, support staff and reporters. Live interviews took place as the programme impressed on their thousands of listeners, just how vibrant and colourful Lytham town looked.
They were taken aback by the sheer number of planters and hanging baskets as well as their beauty. They did look splendid.
Lytham in Bloom spokesmen Carol Wildon and Trevor Mackey went live with Radio Manchester as they answered questions about Lytham in Bloom's forthcoming competitions for North West in Bloom and Britain in Bloom, both of which are taking place at the moment.
Also gathering in The Square were Lytham in Bloom volunteers along with additional volunteers from Inenco. They were all preparing for a big clean up in the town and along the judging route for North West in Bloom judges.
At the other end of The Square, a promotion for the forthcoming War Weekend was taking place. This year Lytham Green will go back to the 40’s on August 18th and 19th. A US Jeep formed the backdrop for men and women dressed in the battle fatigue of yesteryear as they promoted the event. How uncomfortable they must have been under that thick uniform. It was hot enough for us in just T shirts and shorts!
Visitors and locals alike packed into the cafes and restaurants where outside seats were at a premium. It all came together to form quite a spectacle. All this hot on the heels of the Lytham Festival. For a small seaside town, Lytham really does punch well above its weight.
